Pootharekulu - Rice Paper Sweet - are made in a small village Athreyapuram in East Godavari District. This Athreyapuram is around 20 KM from Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh and Rajahmundry is well connected by Air and Trains. Preparation of Pootharekulu is a house hold industry in this village. An earthen pot is put on fire in inverted position. When the pot becomes burning hot, a thin cloth dripped in thick rice water is put on this burning pot and immediately removed. Thus the Rice paper is prepared. Home made Ghee is spread on the Rice PapersThen Sugar/Jaggery along with dry fruits are stuffed between 2-3 rice papers and rolled. Finally mouth watering Pootharelu is ready to eat.
